Pages 49-53 | Accepted 05 Nov 1974, Published online: 19 Aug 2008

Summary

A clinical evaluation of glipizide was carried out in 50 patients with maturity onset diabetes who were not insulin dependent. Most had previously been treated with other sulphonylureas alone or in combination with biguanides. Patients were treated with glipizide for periods ranging from 1 to 12 months or more, 30 of them for over 6 months. Dosage ranged from 2.5 to 15 mg. per day. Good control, as judged by fasting blood glucose levels, was obtained in over 50% of patients and even those with a severe metabolic condition who had failed to respond to other oral hypoglycaemic agents showed some improvement to treatment with glipizide combined with biguanide therapy.
