Summary
In a small open study of 11 patients (8 rheumatoid arthritis, 3 osteoarthrosis), flurbiprofen (average daily dose 150 mg.)was substituted for existing anti-inflammatory analgesic medication over a period ranging from 102 to 159 weeks (mean 140 weeks). Measurement of grip strength and patients' assessment of pain, carried out before and at regular intervals during the study, showed that flurbiprofen produced effective and equally satisfactory control of symptoms in the majority of the patients. Side-effects were minimal. Detailed ophthalmological examination revealed no significant ocular toxicity during the first 6 months of treatment and no haematological or biochemical abnormalities were recorded.
