Summary

A study was carried out to determine the rate of elimination of flurbiprofen in 9 rheumatoid patients who had been receiving high doses (200 mg. or more daily)of the drug for almost a year. The data were compared with those previously obtained from 19 healthy volunteers after single doses (50 mg.)and limited repeated dosage (3 × 50 mg. daily for 9 days). The results showed no apparent change in the pharmacokinetics of flurbiprofen in patients on long-term therapy and serum concentrations were similar to those calculated in the volunteers. It is concluded that frurbiprofen neither induces nor inhibits its own metabolism when given over long periods to human subjects.
