Case Discovery in Case-Based Reasoning Systems

Abstract

Traditionally used as reactive problem-solving mechanisms, case-based reasoning systems have not fulfilled their potential to discover useful new knowledge in the form of cases. the case discovery process fosters anticipation of missing (i.e., future) cases so that users can prepare preventive measures and solutions for future problems. the process has important implications for such domains as medicine and manufacturing, case base expansion, and expert systems development.
