Biometrics Technology Comes of Age

Abstract

Biometrics technology has long promised instant, accurate, and secure access to facilities, networks, and devices. Until recently, however, its application had evolved little beyond the early twentieth-century fingerprint classification system used by law enforcement. That is all about to change as digital imaging and a plethora of biometrics techniques are beginning to reach maturity, and have already given rise to applications in both the commercial and government sectors.
