Abstract

This article provides an overview of cookies, the small files used by companies to collect information about Internet users. Although cookies were initially designed to assist users in shopping online, they have become a synonym for the invasion of privacy. The article discusses the structure of cookies, the advantages and disadvantages of cookies, legal issues, and United States and European Union (EU) laws regarding the use of cookies.
