Abstract
Understanding group differences in psychopathology is important for both public health issues and basic psychopathology theory. Matched moderated regression is a flexible and easily applied method to investigate group differences in the symptoms of a disorder. Components of a multiple-regression model represent (a) group differences in the symptom manifestations of the disorder and (b) group differences in the symptom that are unrelated to the disorder. This theoretically important distinction can be modeled because participants are matched individually on overall severity. Control and explanatory variables are easily incorporated into the regression framework. An example is presented using symptoms of depression reported by Koreans and Americans.
