Increasing Mine Productivity and Safety Through Management Training and Organization Development: A Comparative Study

Pages 1-18 | Published online: 15 Dec 2009

Abstract

An investigation, lasting 42 months, examined the effectiveness of Organization Development and structured management training programs for increasing the productivity and safety, of two underground mines. Changes in productivity and various safety measures in each of the mines were compared with productivity and safety measures during that time in the respective comparison mines in which no interventions took place. Substantial increases in safety were observed in both test mines, and a substantial increase in productivity also occurred in the mine in which the management training program was conducted.
