An Assessment of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

Abstract

Summary: A comprehensive assessment of the Myers-Briggs Type indicator is presented, including a description of the four personality scales measured by the instrument, a summary of the scoring process, and an extensive review of intercorrelation studies, reliability studies, and validity studies conducted with the Indicator. Results of the studies indicate that the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is an adequately reliable self-report inventory. The Extraversion-Introversion Sensation-Intuition, and Thinking-Feeling scales appear to be relatively independent of each other, measuring dimensions of personality which seem to be quite similar to those postulated by Carl Jung.
