Alexithymia in Violent Offenders

Pages 462-467 | Published online: 10 Jun 2010

Abstract

The fantasy aggression of violent offenders was examined with the aid of the Rorschach and the TAT. On the basis of the etiology of this pathology it was proposed that the subjects were characterized by a lack in the ability to fantasize, labeled "alexithymia". This hypothesis was supported. The violent subjects expressed less aggression in the projective tests than nonviolent subjects. In addition the violent offenders had striking disability in expressing their feelings in words.
