Toward Understanding and Preventing Genocide

Abstract

This article is a brief commentary on the study by Ervin Staub on "The Origins and Prevention of Genocide, Mass Killing, and Other Collective Violence" (this issue). It is largely supportive of his theory of the origins of genocide but more critical about the possibilities of preventing genocide, given the current lack of political will that is necessary to implement the many reasonable proposals he presents.
