Regression Toward the Man Effect: No Statistical Background Required

Pages 229-230 | Published online: 20 Nov 2009

Abstract

A new classroom demonstration of the regression toward the mean effect is proposed. The demonstration is highly concrete and strictly psychological in nature. It may be used in both small and large classes. It does not assume any statistical background. Although some assumptions about the nature of the measurement process are explicitly made, these assumptions are highly intuitive and are easily accepted even by students who are not familiar with measurement theory.
