Teaching Psychology in a Prison

Abstract

The recent growth of prison college programs is likely to ensure that more psychologists will be needed to teach psychology in prisons. This article describes some of the special issues that arise in the teaching of psychology to prison inmates. It also summarizes the results of a survey of inmates' perceptions of how taking psychology affects them. The article concludes with a discussion of some of the special rewards of teaching psychology in a prison setting.
