Nonsexist Language: Successes, Neologisms, and Barbarisms

Abstract

This article examines a number of attempts by students and professors to eliminate sexist language in their writing. 1 evaluated nonsexist substitutions on the basis of etymological accuracy and linguistic esthetics. Nonsexist substitutions for some difficult sexist words are suggested.
