Abstract
Using a literature search, undergraduates in a cognitive psychology course examine the tables of contents in volumes of selected journals published during the last 4 decades. Students judge whether each article's topic and terminology represent a behavioral or cognitive framework. This assignment is used to: (a) compare how topics of learning and memory are approached from behavioral versus cognitive frameworks. (b) demonstrate the historical and dynamic nature of conceptual frameworks in psychology, and (c) introduce concepts and research topics in contemporary cognitive psychology.
