Voice Synthesis Supplement to a Computerized Interviewing Training Program: Retention Effects

Pages 260-263 | Published online: 20 Nov 2009

Abstract

We examined the effects of adding microcomputer-generated voice synthesis to a computer-assisted learning exercise involving clinical interviewing. Three modes of presenting case material were studied: (a) video text only, (b) voice only, and (c) synthesized voice-plus-video text. College students preferred either the voice-only or text-only presentation, but they more accurately recalled details of the case material in the voice-plus-video text mode.
