Teaching Students the Importance of Accuracy in Research: A Reply to McDonald and Peterson

Pages 101-102 | Published online: 20 Nov 2009

Abstract

McDonald and Peterson (this issue) criticize my suggestion that introductory experimental psychology students be taught the importance of accuracy by giving them an A or F for the results sections of laboratory reports. However, the empirical basis for their objections has little relevance, and classroom observations demonstrate the beneficial results of appropriate use of reinforcement and punishment principles.
