Abstract

Explores issues pertaining to the study and treatment of childhood conduct problems in disadvantaged populations. Conduct disorder and its behavioral precursors are serious societal problems that cut across socioeconomic and cultural lines. issues of cultural sensitivity are discussed, including contextual interpretations of aggression, culturally referenced, selection of target samples, and implementation of culturally pertinent interventions. A related issue of engagement during intervention is also discussed. As intervention strategies for childhood conduct problems are enhanced, it is clear that greater attention will need to be given to children's cultural identity, community involvement and expectations, and relevance of the intervention to the children's cultural context.
