Abstract
This study investigates potential deficits in the lives of Head Start children. In addition to poverty, the range of potential deficit factors was 0 to 24. More than 61 % of the children experienced four or more potential deficit factors. Four per- cent of the children experienced 10 or more. Ethnic group differences and marital status differences were found on the total number of potential deficit factors.
