Abstract
Stilbene-degrading microorganisms were isolated from natural environments by enrichment cultures on stilbene as the sole carbon source. All of the 27 strains isolated belonged to the genus Pseudomonas, which were classified into three groups according to biochemical characteristics. During growth of the isolates the decrease of stilbene was accompanied with the appearance of several hydroxyphenyl carboxylic acids including protocatechuic acid and benzoic acid.
