Abstract

A myxobacterium, Stigmatella aurantiaca, requires light for the efficient formation of its fuiting body. Isoeugenitin was isolated from a culture of the fungus as a regulatory substance that induces morphological development in S. aurantiaca. At a concentration of about 1–40 μm, the compound induced development of stalks on which myxospore-containing sporangia are formed without light irradiation.
