What Is Social Work Supervision?

Abstract

Despite its hollowed position in the field, there are few studies describing what social work supervision actually do. The study applied a systematic approach to task analysis within a large, state child welfate bureucracy. Three levels of organizational personnal were queried with rather large discrepancies uncovered between from line workeres and supervisions. The results stronly suggest the dominance and administrative functions of the supervisiors studied. implications for improving supervisor effectivness and efficency and insights into the task analysis method are discussed.
