Structure as an Aspect of Social Work Interviewing

Pages 141-155 | Published online: 13 Oct 2010

Abstract

This study examines how laboratory training in basic interviewing skills influences students' use of structuring behaviors. While changes associated with training are evident, the pattern of these changes highlights problems with "structure" as a concept. Also, methodological difficulties with the measurement of structure were encountered; these are described and it is argued that they signal theoretical and methodological issues which are generally relevant to research of this type.
