Abstract
Beginning supervisors face numerous challenges in their transition from psychotherapist to supervisor. Several stage models of supervisor development are reviewed, which highlight various developmental challenges one faces as a beginning supervisor. A supervisory vignette of an advanced trainee supervising a junior trainee is then introduced, with an emphasis on many of the common issues one is confronted with as a beginning supervisor. Recommendations are then offered to beginning supervisors for managing the dilemmas inherent in their new roles.
