Structure and Process in Designing a Functional Group

Abstract

An understanding of the relationship between group structure and process is necessary to ensure the maximal therapeutic benefits of group treatment. This also applies to the planning or design stage of a group. This article discusses the relation between structure and process in the context of a functional group model and addresses issues that the group leader needs to consider in planning and running a group. A group Protocol is presented to assist in this task.
