Pages 21-31 | Published online: 23 Oct 2008

Abstract

The initiation of school-based adolescent suicide response programs is considered by reviewing recommended strategies and issues that must be addressed. Issues include the program rationale, responsibilities of schools and teachers, and concerns about the impact of programs. Strategies include using appropriate instructional principles, maintaining a systemic/ecological focus, involving all the stakeholders, and evaluating program efficacy. Available resources for program implementation are also reviewed.
