ABSTRACT
This article is a biography of Freda Adler, one of criminology's unique and most accomplished women pioneers. It traces her educational and intellectual background and analyses her contributions to criminological research. It reviews her singular contributions inthe area of women in crime and justice, international and comparative research, and theoretical criminology. Her work has been translated into many languages and has influenced criminological thought globally. Her work on synnomie has stimulated national and international research and enhanced our understanding of the etiology of crime. This article further notes Adler's professional achievements, honors and recognitions by her University, the profession and the public. It chronicles her accomplishments as the President of the American Society of Criminology (1994-1995). It concludes by looking at Freda Adler, the person.
