New Hope Spring Swing

A Social Event for Elderly Persons with Dementia

Pages 59-65 | Published online: 12 Aug 2009

Abstract

Persons with dementia and their caregivers are at risk for social isolation. Our adult day care developed a program to help meet their need for socialization in a safe and supportive environment. The Spring Swing, an after hours soiree, was designed to introduce members of the community to adult day care and role model techniques that may interrupt disruptive behaviors. It was an innovative approach by adult day care nurses and staff to expand services currently being offered to clients.
