Abstract
This article outlines a series of activities developed from the adult play and geriatric therapy literature. The purpose of this article is to introduce therapeutic play activities developed for use with nursing home residents. The activities are intended to increase residents' socialization, generate interpersonal and emotional dialogue among residents, and foster individual creativity. The activities were introduced in a pilot study in two Midwestern nursing homes. A one-year follow-up indicates that cohesion and socialization were maintained among group participants. Therapeutic play activities are presented in an effort to foster the utilization of the activities by nursing home, gerontological, and mental health professionals.
