Self-Management Training and Medication Compliance in Children with Diabetes

Pages 47-55 | Published online: 13 Oct 2010

Abstract

Four insulin dependent diabetic boys were given training in self-management. The youngsters conducted a selfchange project designed to improve adherence to their medical regimen. Additionally, they received negotiation and contracting training and developed a contract to earn reinforcement from their parents for using their self-management skills. The procedures resulted in a large increase in adherence to the targeted component of their medical regimen. Implications of the findings are discussed.
