Abstract

Six children attending an orthodontic clinic were exposed to a procedure designed to increase their adherence to the oral hygiene requirements of their orthodontic treatment regimen. Parents and their children developed contingency contracts in which the children were rewarded for increased toothbrushing frequency. These procedures resulted in a decease in dental plaque and a reduction in severity of gingivitis.
