ABSTRACT

Research findings show that many children who experience parental divorce manifest a variety of short-and long-term adjustment problems. Additionally, the literature identifies factors such as parental conflict and disruption of daily routines that can exacerbate these problems. However, there are measures parents can take to help their children through the often distressing process of parental divorce. In the present paper, the empirical literature regarding issues/factors relevant to children's adjustment to divorce is described. Based on the reviewed literature, practical guidelines and suggestions, likely to help parents enhance their children's adjustment are provided.
