This paper explores the meaning of culturally competent and gender-specific programming for Latinas, and addresses the impact of culture and gender on alcohol problems. In addition, it lays out a rationale for the development of a theoretical framework for the treatment of alcohol abuse and dependency among Latinas based on feminist, cultural, and community perspectives.
