Social Work in Private Industry:

Assessing the Corporate Culture

Abstract

Assessment is a generic social work skill applicable in a range of practice settings. As social workers move into industty and, in particular, into the corporate world, these assessment skills must be adapted to fit the environment. Recognition of the uniqueness of the corporate environment is essential. This article presents the nature of assessment in the corporate setting, focusing on the Employee Assistance Program. It looks at corporate culture, develops a dynamic assessment model, and offers applications to both organizational and clinical areas. The highlight is on the interplay of the levels in systems involved.
