Treatment Alternatives in South Africa

Abstract

This article provides an overview of alcohol and drug problems in South Africa. The authors identify the social and economic implications of the most commonly abused drugs and penalties for offenders. Intervention methods enforced by the court system are also examined. Additionally, the current status of chemical dependency treatment and self-help groups is discussed.
