EAP Family Therapy

An Underutilized Resource

Pages 35-48 | Published online: 15 Oct 2008

Abstract

Employee assistance professionals appear to differ in what they believe the nature of employee assistance services should be-specifically, whether they should be only assessment and referral for drug/alcohol problems or should include referral for a wide range of human concerns and/or short-term intervention. A second area of disagreement seems to be how family members should participate in employee assistance services-as individuals receiving treatment, as adjuncts to employees' treatment, or as members of families receiving treatment as families. This article reports on the use of both employee assistance services and referral services to assist couples, and in a few instances families, in deciding whether or not to divorce.
