ABSTRACT
A scale on job satisfaction was developed, which could be used in a wide range of occupational groups. An initial item pool of 44 items thought to be aspects of job satisfaction was completed by a sample of 885 Ontario working adults in a wide range of occupations. Factor analysis was conducted on the items and a set of 10 items was defined on one factor. Cronbach's alpha for these items was .77. Average scores on the scales were not significantly different between males and females and among six major occupational groups. The scale was significantly related to workplace factors such as job stress, boredom, isolation and danger of illness or injury.
