Pages 27-38 | Published online: 26 Oct 2008

Abstract

This research explored gender differences in the etiology and consequences of alcohol abuse among older adolescents. No significant differences were found in the etiology of alcohol abuse; however, consequences were different for young men and women in three areas. Men were more likely to have neglected duties and women were more likely to have experienced blackouts and to have lost friends as a result of their drinking.
