Abstract

This study investigated the relationship between suicidal ideation and behaviors and gender roles, as measured by the Bem Sex Role Inventory, in 329 undergraduate and grdaduate students. The andorgynous gender role individuals were least likely to have engaged in serious suicidal ideation or behaviors. Sex-typed and undifferentiated gender role groups were also unlikely to have been at risk. Cross-gender role identified persons, however, showed substantial risk for suicidal behaviors.
