Now that the old external reasons for couples remaining together have broken down “we need to find a new basis for enduring, enriching relationships. Intimate relationships now need to reflect and promote our deeper being” rather than serving some limited role-bound function. We need to understand the ongoing challenges of a relationship as a path that can help us connect more deeply with ourselves, our partner, and life itself.
