Therapy with Men in Relationships in a Managed Care Environment

ABSTRACT

Managed care affects all facets of psychotherapy practice. This article discusses the specific problems associated with working with men in couples therapy under managed care. Based on the clinical experience of the author, managed care contributes to difficulties in the following areas: flexibility of treatment, access to treatment, administrative burdens for the therapist, limits on the choice of therapeutic modality, and adequate reimbursement.
