Therapeutic Family Meetings: A Resource for Kinship Care

Pages 3-15 | Published online: 21 Oct 2008

ABSTRACT

This paper focuses on the nature, dynamics and the importance of kinship care as a viable alternative and tool for empowerment that can be utilized when working with African American children and their families. It reviews the traditional versus modern perceptions of service delivery in reference to kinship care and emphasizes the need to redefine how we view such families. Therapeutic aspects and techniques of family meetings are stressed as a method of intervention resulting in the development of a kinship care plan for children within their family system.
