Abstract
This paper lays out an historical overview of the way in which homosexuality has been viewed by psychiatry and the helping professions. It suggests that it is time to look at gay and lesbian older adults with a different perspective and presents a case example to illustrate the ways in which older gay adults can be helped by social workers.
