Practice with Transgendered Youth and Their Families

Pages 111-129 | Published online: 16 Oct 2008

Abstract

Each of the ways of being transgendered relates to individuals' sense of themselves as sexed and gendered persons. Finding the 'best fit' in terms of individual and family relations requires being open to and exploring the multiple meanings of sex and gender. For families this can be difficult, confusing and painful. This paper explores a wide range of issues confronting social work practice with transgend-ered persons and their families.
