Pages 29-46 | Published online: 23 Oct 2008

Abstract

In addition to the physiological, pscyhological and sociological factors related to the etiology of addiction, certain philosphical and religous factors also emerge as being significant in the development of alcoholism. Of particular significance is the phenomenon of existential anxiety as it relates to the search for meaning and purpose in life. The conflicts which appear as a result of dependency factor significantly into thep philosophical-religous components of addiction.
