ABSTRACT
In this text of the keynote address written for the Tenth Anniversary Celebration of the Master of Arts in Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Ministry, Dr. Kempton Hewitt traces the human, spiritual and institutional factors that permitted such an innovative degree program. The article emphasizes an unexpected evolution of diverse human benefactors, most of whom experienced the pain of addiction themselves or in their family histories. Dr. Hewitt concludes by comparing the spirit-filled ministry of Jesus of Nazareth with modern ministers of addiction.
