Pages 5-23 | Received 22 Mar 2004, Accepted 03 Feb 2005, Published online: 22 Sep 2008

ABSTRACT

AKIS performance is vital especially, for the countries with overly rural populated and considerable important agricultural economies like Turkey. In the study, the comparative analysis has been done for examining AKISs of conventional and ecological raisin farming in the Manisa Province of Turkey. According to the findings, outsider actors direct both the AKISs. The farmer groups operate with low technology adoption level and public extension service has not any field-level activity about ecological farming. The employing approaches in both AKISs are based on traditional models. The most important pillars of sustainable development such as participatory approaches and empowering the local were not recognized in the region.
