ABSTRACT

Detection systems for blueberry scorch virus (BBScV), a member of the carlavirus group of RNA-containing plant viruses, and red ringspot virus (BBRRV), a member of the caulimovirus group of DNA-containing plant viruses, have been developed. The most sensitive method for detection of both viruses was polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Nucleic acid spot hybridization was somewhat less effective. Transmission experiments confirmed that at least one aphid species is capable of transmitting BBScV.
