ABSTRACT
Blueberry breeding in North Carolina was initiated to develop cultivars resistant to diseases and insects indigenous to the southeastern United States. As a result of 55 years of blueberry breeding effort, 109 resistant genotypes have originated. These genotypes were screened for stem canker [Botryosphaeria cortkis (Demaree & Wilcox) Arx & Muller], stem blight [Botryosphaeria dothidea (Mouq.rFr.) Ces. & de Not] and/or sharp-nosed leafhopper, vector of blueberry stunt, [Scaphytopius magdalensis (Provancher)]. These genotypes are currently being used in the breeding program and are also available to cooperating blueberry breeding programs.
