ABSTRACT

'Sunny' tomato plants were grown, using four fumigant treatments and three mulch treatments. Fumigants were metham sodium at the rate of 935 l/ha and dazomet at rates of 336 kg/ha, 420 kg/ha and 504 kg/ha. Mulches were 1.25 mil black polyethylene (plastic), a spray-on styrene-butadiene polymer dispersion (Styrofan) sprayed over beds at a rate of 959 l/ha, or none. Plants in all mulch treatments produced similar marketable yields. Neither fumigant had an advantage over the other in yield.
